OVERVIEW
AMAZE is a 3D dungeon rescue game that challenges you to navigate a vast and treacherous maze. You take on the role of a knight on a critical mission: a princess has ventured too deep into the winding dungeon, has lost her way, and is now unable to return home on her own. It is up to you to find her and guide her to safety!
The path is not straightforward. The maze is large, but all hope is not lost, as you will find signposts along the way to help guide you toward the princess. Your journey will be blocked by heavy pillars, but these obstacles can be shattered and cleared using a sledgehammer.
To understand the complex maze layout, you can find and consume magic mushrooms. This special item allows you to detach from your body and see the maze from an alternate dimension; revealing the layout from underground, to help you plan your path.
AMAZE is ideal for fans of dungeon-crawlers and maze games who value the replayability that procedural generation provides.

KEY FEATURES
LOST PRINCESS
The ultimate goal of your perilous quest is to find the lost princess, who desperately awaits a hero deep within the maze. Rescuing her is how you complete your mission and win the game!
PROCEDURALLY GENERATED MAZE
Navigate a different challenge every time you play, thanks to a massive, procedurally generated maze that enhances replayability.
MAGIC MUSHROOMS
To gain a strategic advantage, you can find and consume magic mushrooms. This special item temporarily transports your consciousness to an alternate dimension, granting you an out-of-body view of the maze's true layout.
SLEDGEHAMMER AND DESTRUCTIBLE PILLARS
Your path will often be blocked by large pillars, but these can be destroyed using sledgehammers found within the dungeon. This tool is consumed upon use, breaking along with the obstacle; but more can be discovered as you explore.
SIGNPOSTS
While the layout is always new, helpful waypoints in the form of signs will point you in the general direction of the princess.
GRIM DISCOVERIES
The maze is also filled with grim environmental details, including the bones and skeletons of previous visitors long forgotten, and the tragic items left behind by children who ventured into the maze but never found their way out -- just like the princess.
BACKGROUND MUSIC
The atmospheric backround music is designed to help you focus on the mental challenge of navigating the maze.
QUIRKY HUMOR
To balance the dungeon's otherwise foreboding atmosphere, the game includes touches of quirky humor. Gulp down your magic mushrooms and your ultimate success will be rewarded.

CHARACTERS
This section introduces the main characters in the game, providing descriptions of their roles, abilities, and appearances.
KNIGHT (PLAYER CHARACTER)
The player takes on the role of the Knight, the hero of the quest. Brave and determined, the Knight is the only one willing to venture into the perilous dungeon to rescue the lost princess. While others have met their end within the dungeon's winding paths, the Knight pushes forward. He relies on his wits to solve the labyrinth, his strength to shatter obstacles with a sledgehammer, and his courage to face the grim remains of those who came before him. He is the princess's only hope.
PRINCESS (GOAL)
The Princess is the ultimate objective of the Knight's quest. Instantly recognizable by her royal crown and vibrant purple dress, she has wandered far too deep into the endless maze and cannot find her way out. She now waits desperately for a hero to rescue her. While the dungeon is a dark and foreboding place, the sound of her gleeful, relieved laugh is what the knight yearns to hear once more. Finding the princess is the only way to complete your mission and win the game.

ITEMS
Items are objects that the player character can either take, use or consume to fulfill his mission and to gain temporary benefits..
MAGIC MUSHROOMS
Found growing in the damp corners of the dungeon, these special fungi are a key consumable for navigating the maze. When consumed, the mushrooms temporarily transport your consciousness to an alternate dimension, granting you an out-of-body, underground view of the maze's true layout. This strategic advantage is essential for planning your path forward.
SLEDGEHAMMER
This heavy-duty tool is the only thing capable of destroying the large pillars that block your path. Sledgehammers are found littered throughout the maze, left behind by previous visitors. Be mindful of their use; the sledgehammer is a consumable item that breaks and is destroyed along with the pillar, so you will need to find another one to clear the next obstacle.

CREATED FOR FCJ9 (2025)
AMAZE was created as a student project for the Finnish College Jam #9 (2025). This event is part of the wider Finnish Game Jam, an annual event where teams collaborate to design and build a complete game from scratch within a highly compressed timeframe. Our team, a group of second-year game development students from Riveria in Outokumpu/Finland, had a total of four days to complete the entire project.
The jam's submission window opened on October 27th, 2025, at 9:00 AM and closed on October 30th, 2025, at 11:59 PM, giving us this intense period to take the game from initial concept to a finished, playable state. We hope you enjoy the result, such as it is. XD
